Paradoxically, this futuristic image of war in space was a precursor of the current programme. Painted in 1985, it has not aged well: the laser beams have lost their brilliance, and the blue heavens are drab. The hi-tech machinery hangs lifeless in the void. This is a far cry from the highly-coloured delirium of Druillet's psychedelic masterpiece Lone Sloane.
