François Schuiten: Avec le Temps
François Schuiten knows all about imaginary townscapes, obscure cities; he was a natural choice to inaugurate Operation "murs peints".
Just off the Champ de Mars (usually a car park, but for the duration of the Festival the site of the two huge tents which house the publishers stands), a peeling facade is broken open to reveal within the wheels of time. But the facade, too, is an illusion, the tattered poster for Le Nil cigarette papers itself part of the painting, a reference to Angoulême's former Le Nil paper factory, now a paper museum.
